How to Replace RAID 0 Hard drive in recently purchased HP Pavilion e9280t?

Is there any guide or reference material available for future RAID 0?  Want  to keep it as reference in  case it fails after warranty and HP charges $$$ for instructions.

I have good backup so I'm not to worried about Data loss.

Some question:

Have to replace both Hard drives?

Can use any 2 identical drives on the open market?

How is RAID 0 reconfigured?

Any other difficulties besides the above?

[ Edited ]

1.  You only have to replace the failing hard drive but the entire RAID array must be rebuilt (reloaded from backups).

2. The replacement drive should be the same --- With RAID 1 equal or larger

3. Any two open market drives will work ---- the bios and motherboard may limit the total size

4. RAID is set active in the bios for the hard drive controller but then (with Intel) you must enter the RAID configuration menu at boot time and select a RAID pair of hard drives to build the array.

5. With RAID 0 if one hard drive fails then the PC is down. RAID 0 is an performance configuration and not a redundancy configuration as is RAID 1.  Raid 1 operates slightly slower than non-RAID as writes have to be committed to both hard drives.

Re: How to Replace RAID 0 Hard drive in recently purchased HP Pavilion e9280t?

Thanks for the basic information.

How do you tell which Hard drive failed?

How do you know if the HD manufacturer set the drives for RAiD 0?

How do you know if it will fit in he HP case, etc.?

What type of screen does the Intel info pop-up.  Enough to guide you?  Or a progamming gibbrerish nightmare?

Re: How to Replace RAID 0 Hard drive in recently purchased HP Pavilion e9280t?

When a hard drive fails in RAID 0 you should be able to boot into the RAID configuration screen and see which drive has failed.

The HD manufacturer doesn't set the drives for RAID.  Normally when a PC such as the e9280t is ordered then there is an option to select hard drive storage size and RAID or no RAID.  My e9280t was delivered in RAID 0 and I converted it to non-RAID.

The e9280t comes with a RAID controller built into the motherboard.

Ok, thanks a better picture is emerging. Just have to make sure an indentical hard drive can be sourced.
