How to add an extra cooling fan

Hello everyone

I am using a Compaq SG3-210UK Desktop PC and I would add an extra new cooling fan and I would know how to connect it to the motherboard or to the power supply.

Thank you for any help or hints.

Re: How to add an extra cooling fan

Its a good point to make sure the tower works at optimal temperatures which also inturn prevents damages to hardware components due to overheating. However the HP towers are designed for optimum performance based on the models. The cooling system, the air flow, the power requirements and the hardware components itself. Its not harm to add one. But as the tower is designed to accomodate specific number of hardware components, you might find it difficult to accomodate an additional cooling fan.

Re: How to add an extra cooling fan

Well the place where to place the new extra fan is already here and empty. There's enough room for such. Thanks for your reply.

Hi,

HP PCs are normally setup for two fans; CPU and case.  I am not sure where you think that you could add a thrid fan but you could tap into a power supply connector using a T adapter to provide power.

A another option to consider is to replace the power supply (PSU) with a higher efficiency rating. The replacment PSU would also have a bigger exhaust fan. The typical fan in the HP PSU is 80mm and you could easily install a PSU with a 120mm fan.

Here is a procedure on how to reduce heat inside your PC.

Additional cooling ideas: PCI slot cooling fan and vented PCI slot covers.

Re: How to add an extra cooling fan

Yes exactly and that's my case as you said "HP PCs are normally setup for two fans; CPU and case." now I have already the CPU fan but I don't have the case fan. That's what I want and I need to know where exactly shall I plug the case fan, on the motherboard (I didn't find where) or directly in a power supply extra cable. The only one I still have free.

system fan plug         system fan.jpgis the 3 pins

Standard Case fan is 92mm 3 wire, see:

Re: How to add an extra cooling fan

Hi,

According the the motherboard image that you posted, I don't see a socket for the case (system) fan which might explain why you don't have one in your PC.  I also noticed that HP Partsufer doesn't stock a case (system) fan.

Open up your PC and inspect the lower area to the bottom back inside your PC.  There may be room to install a fan depending on the position of the CPU fan, available space and whether the cabinet has mounting holes for a case (system) fan.  If there is room and the motherboard doesn't have a socket for fan connection then look fan with a molex connector and then use an T adapter to tap into a sata power or molex connector if available.

Yes I need one of those fans as provided by you in your links.

Thank you. And I also found where to buy it. But my problem here is I don't find where to plug it on the motherboard. The only option left I think is to plug it directly to the power supply. And I am still asking some technicians on how to do it. Thanks everyone.

CyberHaddad,

I snipped and rotated your board. It appears to be brown in color.
