Have an p Slimline s7700n and it seems to have some type of hardware problem.
I attempting to reinstall the opereating system in the computer but every time it just freezes up during the installation. This same problem was evident before when the operating system was installed.
I would start the reinstall and at a random time the system would just freeze up, the screen would appear to be a series of slanting line filling up the screen. At this time the mouse would not move or no other response could be gotten out of the computer.
I have replaced the power supply and the problem still persists. And it seems like the problems is increasing, the time before it freezes up is getting shorter and shorter.
I tried to run a memory test but I could not get it to boot to the usb port with the mem86 program.
In fact as I was trying to change the bios to boot from the usb stick it just froze up.
Any ideas as what the problem might be?

Hi,
See if you can access your Diagnostic screen and run tests on the Hard Drive. The procedure on how to do this is detailed in the link below under 'Testing the Hard Drive'.
Post back with your results.

The bios screen does not contain any F9 Diagnostic Tools utility.
The computer spec are:
Bios 5.02 11-30-2006
Core 5.0
Model # s770n
Product # RK576AA-ABA
Build ID: 71nav3pra4
The only thing on the screen is
Boot menu
F10 Bios Setup
F11 Recovery
What now?

Hello h_gondorff, Since you mentioned you have Memtest installed on a USB device, you might try disconnecting the hard drive cables and boot the system to the USB with Memtest installed and see if Memtest can verify the memory is not defective.
This may also allow you to enter the BIOS, just to make sure you can. This may narrow down the hard drive as the possible issue.
You can also go to the hard drive manufacturer's web site and download the software to test the hard drive for errors.
I do suspect the hard drive has failed.
