Re: I have a hp pavilion dv6-1204au laptop. I was wondering if i can upgrade my processor?

Thank you sir!! It's a great help. Sir i would like to ask a few more things if i may....

Would you recommend AMD A8-3530MX AM3530HLX43GX 1.9GHz(with turbo boost upto 2.6 Ghz) processor for my laptop? Will this upgrade improve my laptop's performance decently? also my current processor is a 35 W processor and the above mentioned is 45 W...Could it harm my Laptop by overheating??

What other upgrades i can do to my laptop to improve it's performance?

Re: I have a hp pavilion dv6-1204au laptop. I was wondering if i can upgrade my processor?

Hi,

1. Firstly you have to use 35W processor otherwise this is not going to work, not because of heating but other components including the power supply. Depending on the apps, upgrading CPU may no see the improvement because the bottle neck may reside on other components such as FSB, RAM and HDD. We normally use the term CPU bound or I/O bound for those applications (a) If CPU bound applications, upgrading CPU will definitely help, but (b) if I/O bound applications, upgrading CPU is a waste.

2. Normally upgrading RAM will have a big leap in peformance but again anything has a limit, up to the point the machine does not support AND the apps, including the operating system (OS) can not address all RAM (such as 32 bit OS can not address more than 4GB of RAM in theory). The next "big" thing is upgrading the HDD using higher RPM or SSD. But again, I always tell people: do you want a car with leather seats, GPS, ..... or pay money to get 2 seconds faster when start ?

Sorry, I can talk the whole day about pros and cons of upgrading machine and it's normally up price/performance, the real dollars at the end, users need to sit down and think: is it worth the dollars we spent.

Regards.
