How do I know if the correct drivers are installed for a my Wireless Keyboard and Mouse Set? HP Pavilion Desktop PC (HP Pavilion 061), PE564A-ABA A646C , Windows XP OS. I have a wireless keyboard & mouse set (HP Wireless Mouse Model #: M971U (M1) (92LP0524). They both are working. But, the mouse snacks on batteries. When the computer is shut down, the red light on the bottom stays on (blinking, etc.). Do I need a new driver? Or, what can I do? If I need to install some new stuff, can you tell me how to do it? I'm fairly intelligent, but no geek...

By shut down do you mean total power off or sleep mode (standby)?
After you power off the PC, remove the wireless dongle from the PC. Does the mouse stop blinking?
If you are using "standby" mode then a low power state has to exist so that the PC can wake by mouse or keyboard action. Some mice do have an off button on them (usually on the bottom). Turning off the mouse would save battery and still allow you to use "standby".
Some of the newer mice use less battery and go almost dead if not connected to an active dongle until moved. Some older mice never power off and eat batteries like crazy.

I did mean 'total power off'. I don't have a Dongle (cute little gadgets, I'd like to have a couple to set up a Home Network with), but a little black box (with a USB Cable coming out it rear) that is attached to the computer in back. I will try to unplug it to see if the Mouse Light goes off (next time I shut down).
And, the mouse has no On/Off Button (It was one of the first things I checked). That's what makes me think it's a software or driver error. Surely, no manufacturer (HP Logo in this case) would send equipment to a Customer when they know there is a fault in the design (namely, the mouse doesn't power down when the computer is turned off)...
So, I'll get back with you when I have more to report. By the way, thanks for your help!
