Hi cdtjuk,

What is your PC model number?

Can you tell us more about what is not working with your dvdrw drive?

...an HP employee just trying to help where I can, but not speaking on behalf of HP.

Re: Is there a firmware update available for my vista TsstCorp CDDVD TS-H653N Drive

Yes the  Model number is HP Elite m9070.uk or m9000 not sure which you need. When i istalled a game i have it worked fine until i installed the patch then it crashes on the main menu. I have been in contact with the maker of the game and have tried many options with them included a new copy of the game, still the same problems. The tech guy at the support centre that helped me with the problem said:

Unfortunately I have no more solutions left for you. I think there must a confliction between your disk drive and the patch when you try to install it. I can’t see it being any of the previously mentioned problems due to the same thing happening with another copy of the game. Your system seems fine to run the game and you’ve closed all programs that could interfere when you install the patch. It baffles me that the game plays before the patch is loaded, which has led me to conclude that it is a disk drive confliction. It sounds as though the games copywrite protection may be conflicting with your drive, In such a case disk/drive conflictions are usually very difficult to solve, I would recommend you try locating the drive manufacturers website and check their support section as ‘firmware’ updates can help.

So i'm trying his solution i also get a lot of loud humming when i use a cd in the disk drive It sound like its going to take off.

Hope this answers your question and that you can help in some way.

Re: Is there a firmware update available for my vista TsstCorp CDDVD TS-H653N Drive

I couldn't help with firmware for your drive but take a look at this:

http://club.cdfreaks.com/f105/tsstcorp-ts-h653n-s203n-firmware-difference-249267/

And then here:  http://www.firmwarehq.com/Samsung/SH-S203N/files.html

If you really want to do that, read the method mentioned in the thread at CDFreaks on how to get it done.  If the only issue you are having is with this game, I might consider trying a different drive that you might borrow from a friend.  It really serves little purpose to upgrade the firmware if the drive is performing correctly expect for that issue with the game, but DVD drives are relatively cheap.  If you want to buy a new drive, try Newegg.com and look for a OEM drive. For $25 to $30 US, you can get a newer DVD drive.
