I could give a lot of specs, but I do not see that it would be needed in this case. I replaced my HP/Compaq MB with another HP/ Compaq MB. The difference is I put a dual core MB. It worked fine for about a week. It would not boot up. They replaced it, and the same thing happened. The CPU was a new old stock. They sent me a used MB that was not for my case, but it worked just fine for over a week. I bought another CPU, new old stock. The man that was working on it passed away, so I found some one else. He came to the house and ran a diagnostic test on all of the hard ware. He put it under stress, no problems. Later that day, it would not boot again. He came back, checked the PSU. It check out fine, still will not boot. I replaced this MB with one of the others. The fans came on, but would not start or turn off using the switch. I put the used one back in, of course it will not boot, only the fans work. It should be simple, but nothing about computers are simple. What would cause 3 MB's to work when they were first put in, but only work for about a week or so? Plus add to it that I bought a new CPU for the last MB I got. The CPU is a AMD Athlon 64 x 2 4800+. It just started out as a project to keep my mind off of being told I may have Cancer. I am still wating on the results. Does anyone have a clue as to what is going on? It is not worth keep putting money in it, but I hate to be defeated.
Thanks, David

One possible cause- Static Damage. Here's a link to a nice article that provides some information on this.

Thanks for the information. I took great care as far as static electricity. Everything was on a wood surface. When I ran into problems, I did take it a man that works on computers. He passed away about a month ago. I live in a very rural location in TN. There are no name brand place to take it to. The closest place is 2 hours away.
