MMC/SD reader_H: drive

Pavilion a450n_WindowsXP Home.

MMC/SD drive H stopped working. Will not open to view or copy photos.

 Worked fine last time used. When tried again at a later date-nothing. Checked out_ device is working properly. Tried to update driver & wizard could not find a better match than the software currently installed. When SD card is inserted the indicator does light but does not flash. The Icon in My Computer is also highlighted. In the past I inserted SD card & would open to ask me how I wanted to view photos. When I click the icon in My Computer I get a message: Please insert a disc into drive H. Does not see the SD card. In Properties the space available & used space is zero even though there are photos to view. I even tried different SD cards, different brands & everything from 32MB MMC card to a 2GB SD card & still nothing.  I do see the photos on the camera screen but not computer monitor. How can this be fixed?
