Memory card reader issues

So far I have had to do this everytime I restart my system to get the card reader to recognize a memory card. Tech support found this solution to get it to work, but not as to why I need to do this every time I try to read a card after the system has been restarted.....

Tech support told me to shut down, unplug all cables, wait 30 seconds for the power to drain out completely, then reconnect cables, restart....then the reader will recognize the memory crad.. ( this has happened on both SD and memorystick )

Anyone know of the service in Vista services that controls this device? I want to check it to see if its running or enabled....

Re: Memory card reader issues

Do you by chance use the "safely remove hardware" feature from the systray when you eject your memory cards?

Take a look at this hp article to see if it helps:

Re: Memory card reader issues

I have a HP a6660t
Have the same problem and I was told all the same solutions, except for the last phone call.  The link given by another I also found at

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?lc=en&cc=us&docname=bph07910&dlc=en&product=3750363

The key is suppose to be.....

When you have finished working with the files on a memory card, right-click the memory card icon and select Eject . The light on the memory card reader should not be ON or flashing when the card is removed from its slot.

Well I thought this solved the problem until I inserted a 4 G card with about 100 jpeg pictures, followed the eject method which requires opening the My Computer window to find the Icon to right click which is a method that requires more work, but the drives still disappear. Might have something to do with the amount of files its handling.  Another bad piece of hardware not ready for prime time.  Hoping for HP to release a replacement Memory Card reader.

PS

try and find which drive is the SD or CF icon if nothing is inserted.  Another poor method that a cheap card reader I bought gave distinctive Icon with the media type on the drive.  That's a little to progressive for HP to make something good and user friendly. Remember when things were user friendly, they are gone with off shoring support.

Re: Memory card reader issues

So I have a slimline with the same issue -SD card reader. This issue persists even when ejecting and/or safely removing. The card reader will work only one time -after that I have to restart my PC in order to get it to work again. The green led lights but nothing else happens.I have tried reinstalling drivers, even uninstalling the card reader and reinstalling -same issue. I do not know if the other readers on my PC work due to no usage need.
