I got a new HP desktop on Sunday, and hooked it up to my dial up connection. I double checked my dial in numer, username, and password for my AT&T account, clicked connect, and... Nothing. It does the hand shake noises over and over, and never connects. Can someone help? My modem is an Agere Systems PCI-SV92EX Soft Modem.

Try the steps in this HP Support Document on troubleshooting dial-up connections.

I have tried all of those, to no avail. On the simple connection test, all of the sections passed except the actual "Simple Connection Test." I have called my telephone company, and they were of no help, either.
I am currently on my old eMachines (Windows XP) desktop, using the same telephone cable and wall jack I tried on my new HP computer, and they work fine on the same settings.
