Hi!
This issue is really starting to annoy me and I've tried everything Google & this forum seems to offer but to no avail.
Basically whenever I try to play a game on this system, after about 5/10 minutes the monitor goes into sleep mode and won't return. It will still return some sound for the split second between switching it back on and it going back into sleep mode, but no picture. My computer has also done this before when updating Windows Phone 7 software with Zune. I'm assuming it's to do with the hardware and whenever it's getting a bit too much for the computer it just decides to sleep it off.
I've downloaded & installed the BIOS, nVidia card & Realtek updates from my computer's HP downloads page, but it still happens ![]()
Please help!
For reference, my machine is a HP Pavilion Elite HPE-063uk Desktop PC, and it is running operating system Windows 7 Home Premium (64-bit).

Hi,
It sounds like you video card is overheating and shutting down.
Try this procedure:
Unplug the PC and open it up. Clean out all the dust. Carefully remove and replace all the cables going to the motherboard one at a time. Do the same for the memory dimms and the video and sound cards if you have any. You might want to buy a can of compressed air to blow the dust out of the CPU heat sink and the fan area on the video card. Plug your PC back in and give it a go. Check the fan on the fan card and make sure that it spins.
You can download and use GPU-Z to determine if the fan is working and the graphis processor unit (GPU) temperature. You can set GPU-Z to logging mode and then review the log later if needed.
It's possible that you need a new video card.

Hi Big_Dave. Thanks for replying :-)
It's still happening, so I tried the GPU-Z program you mentioned to see what's going on, with the following results:
Date , GPU Core Clock [MHz] , GPU Memory Clock [MHz] , GPU Shader Clock [MHz] , GPU Temperature [°C] , Fan Speed (%) [%] , Memory Used [MB] , GPU Load [%] , Memory Controller Load [%] , Video Engine Load [%] , VDDC [V] ,

The only noticeable difference between the normal running details (The top bold line), and when a game has started (All underneath) is that the temperature slowly creeps up from 80°C (I haven't posted every second's result, but that's what it does. It doesn't just jump into the hundreds!!) until suddenly 105°C is too much for it and it goes all out, which is when the screen goes to sleep mode (The bottom bold line).
Would you say that this is down to the temperature? (And if so how can I go about keeping it cool?) Or does it seem like it could be something else?
Many thanks for your help & any replies from here. It's much appreciated. :-)

Hi,
The 80c temperature at start is too high. It should be in the 40-50c range. Be sure that the PC is getting cool fresh air.
Try an updated video card driver. Worse case is that you may need a new video card.

I've taken it all apart, cleaned out every aspect of it, and refreshed all the drivers, and it's now running about 20-30C's lower than before, and it doesn't run over the 80C mark anymore!
Thank you very much for all your help! Hurray!!!

When does it go to sleep? Sounds like the same issue if it goes to sleep after you keep trying to do certain things.
Is it all properly cleaned? Take each part of your computer out, clean them with some air spray, and then put them back in. Are the fans still working? Make sure they're dust-free to!
