I'm looking to upgrade my motherboard and cpu on my Hp Pavilion a6000n. My question is on what type of Motherboard will fit in my case. The form factor is Micro-ATX 24.4 cm (9.6 inches) x 24.4 cm (9.6 inches). Will any motherboard that fits this form factor fit in the case or does the motherboard have to be hp specific?

Here are the specs for your HP Pavilion a6000n Desktop Computer. According to the specs, this model shipped with an socket AM2 motherboard, DDR2 memory, and Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit.

 

Installing any other motherboard will render your computer's HP Recovery Discs non-functional. The HP OEM Windows Vista install will became "non-genuine" and require the purchase of a new copy of Windows with a COA and valid unuse product key. None of the original HP value-added software will be available for your use. You will most likely have to purchase new DDR3 memory for the new CPU/motherboard.. You may also have issues with the rear I/O plate, motherboard mounting studs may not match, you may need a new power supply, etc.

 

Honestly, it would be better for you to purchase a new computer. However, if you wish to go down the new motherboard/CPU/RAM path, please consider these AMD AM3+ motherboards or these Intet 2nd/3rd Gen socket 1155 motherboards.
