We purchased our HP 1150us g7 a year ago. Our warranty ran out 21 days ago. Now our Dual USB ports no longer show up on the Device Manager so we can install new drivers or uninstall and reinstall them, THEY ARE NOT THERE.
I contacted HP and our warranty ran out 21 days ago, we have NO WARRANTY OR WILL GET NO HELP. Our Motherboard and USB issues are related and would cost at least $400. at the very least to repair.
We paid nearly $600. for our HP notebook NEW ONE YEAR AGO. We thought it would last us a few years, we are seniors and money in this economy is in short supply.
Since we can not tell our friends how wonderfully HP helped us with a year old HP $600.00 Notebook we will have to tell them HP DID NOTHING TO MAKE THIS RIGHT.
I am sure it will change some folks minds about dealing with HP. In fact I know it will make a difference to our friends and family.

Hello,
You are saying that the USB ports, 2 of them are not showing at all in your system...
Your computer comes with 3 USB ports, so is the other one working or it stopped as well?
Did you tried to insatll the latest BIOS update on your system?
http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp56501-57000/sp5687
If there are 3 USB ports and none of them are working, then if nothing appears in device manager, has you said, its a hardware failure, which can happen any time during the duration of your computer. For your information, I have a notebook from HP from 2006, and I have never formatted the system and all ports are working, so failures to components can happen any time to any computer brand, they are electronic components and they can fail, nothing is forever, but some computers last more than others.
Let me know, if I can provide any help to your problem.
Thanks,

The one USB remains and after getting no help from HP we contacted a HIGHLY recommended local shop. He too believes, along with our long time friend who had his own shop for many years, replacing just the dual ports to the Motherboard isn't going to repair this. It needs a new Motherboard and that will take it over $400.00 counting parts and labor with the nearly $600.00 we paid for it last year would be over $1,000.
That is a lot of money for a married couple of seniors on one income.
Both our friend and the local shop suggested purchasing a AC Powered portable USB Hub and running it off the single working USB port and that is where we are at. If and when this stops working then we have to find something else.
I always ran a cooling pad with fans under our notebook, it is an elevated one with two fans. I purchased a electrial plug outlet extension with two USB ports so I can run the Cooling Pad off on the ports on this outlet extension.
I appreciate your kindness in trying to help us, we did check with two individuals we know without a doubt we can trust for work or options and both feel the Motherboard is the problem. Like I said to invest over $400. now along with the nearly $600. to purchase it last year is too for us in this economy. We as seniors thought this would see us through this life but that apparently isn't going to happen.

My son called HP, he really likes the HP equipment and has always had good service with it. A representative from HP called us, someone else not the people we spoke to earlier. This individual was GREAT, she made all the difference I believe we are headed in the right direction.

Hello,
The solution you will use its perfect if you do not want to spend any money and I think it will work great for your needs!
The optimal solution would be another one, but if you still have one USB port, i think its good to use a USB HUB that provides extra ports, since I understand your situation and i think you are choosing the best option for you!
Let me know the outcome of your case, to see how it is ended and closed!
Thanks,
