My HPE h8-1220 has two sata connectors labeled sata4 and sata5. It has a modular type connector.

I'm just wondering, I had read that the HPE H8-1220 supported up to 6 sata connections. I see two ports on the motherboard labeld sata4 and sata5. I"ve never seen that type of sata connector looks modular and its at a 90 degree angel and impossible to see from the top.

Can I use those ports on this system. I have 1 extreme ssd 240gb for Windows 7 and an OCZ 120gb for programs and such. I have the original 2tb drive for my data and am using shellscripts to point to the data files. That uses the 4 sata ports i see.

All that works, my question is that I'd like to add a Crucial 128gb for Linux Mint 12 without having to disconnect the dvd, or add an external usb3 to sata cable.

So i guess my question is what type of connector are those on sata 4 and 5 and can i use them?

Here are the specs for your HP Pavilion HPE h8-1220 Desktop Computer and its Gigabyte M3970AM-HP Angelica Motherboard. According to the specs, your system has six SATA 3.0 connectors on the motherboard... most likely labeled 0 - 5. To two connectors on the edge of the motherboard are standard SATA connectors... just at a right angle. And, yes you can use them.

Thanks so much, I'll try to remove the drive cage and hopefully I'll have better access to those two SATA ports (big fingers). I had read that this machine came with 6, but had never seen them mounted that way. Hopefully I'll have Lm12 running on it tomorrow's. Best regards
