My Pavilion d4100y died. Possible power supply issue?

[ Edited ]

This evening I began to notice a slight "burning rubber" type of smell in my apartment.  Could not pinpoint the source.  Not long after, while working on my Pavilion 4100y desktop, I heard a "pop" sound and it suddenly died.  The computer would not power up again.

I opened the tower and soon realized the source of that burning rubber smell.  Seems to be coming from the power supply.  Could not see anything else obviously wrong.  Tried powering up the tower again....and it seemed like it tried to reboot, but died again a few seconds later.

Does this sound like a simple power supply issue??  I looked online and it appears that replacements are available.  The HP part number of the supply currently installed is 5188-2859.

Just tried rebooting a moment ago, after letting it sit and cool down for a while.  It did boot normally, but after about 2-3 minutes it began to emit that burning rubber smell so I shut it back down.  The green LED on the back lights up normally.

Thank you for any thoughts on this issue.

I wouls suggest not turning on the p.c. again. You could damage the other parts. Order you a new power supply. If it's under warranty have HP send you one. If not under warranty buy one at a local shop.
