Hello,
Im trying to fresh instal win 7 home prem. 64 on the drive that came with the compaq cq5814
Windows 7 install does not see this Hitachi 500 gb drive to my surprise. It shows up in the bios v7.11 on a compaq cq5814. i did some experimenting using a known good seagate hdd for the installation and then the hitachi HDD is fully recognised as a 2nd drive or slave, but i cannot put the operating system on it because window does not see it during windows installation. windows requests a HDD driver?
Help! where can i get this specific driver? it must be special or hidden from hitachi and hp servers. models with specif sn close to this hdd id are fully supported by windows.
the hdd is stamped with an april 2011 and is a version of the hitachi deskstar HDS721050CLA362. 0F13635. HP PN 588599-002

Hi,
Go back into the bio, find the Hitachi hard drive (Computer setup --> Storage --> Device Configuration) and click on it. Make sure the emulation is set to Hard Drive and not none.
You do not need a driver for the Hitachi hard dirve. The windows 7 drivers will work.
If you are not removing the original hard dirve then Windows will use the drive on port 0 (LUN 0) to write the boot code.

I don't have the PC tower in my shop anymore. We had to install a new HDD and move on. The problem HDD was the customers property and left with him. Adios!
Let it be known that Windows will not auto install every HDD on the market. Not all are recognised during a fresh installation. There are HDD controller gaps (nada green check-marks) going on all the time from every manufacturer to save a buck. Yes these are few and far between but they do exsist.
However HP takes it a step further. HP turns their cheek at the consumer to this - all the time. Why? It's chaper to mass volume the special drivers for HDD recognition. Especially ones that spin round & round. HP might as well write their own code (yes they do! Na!) and keep it proprietary, thus screwing the customer when the time comes. Oh I'm positive HP could install the controller on that drive. They wrote the special software for the HDD controller.
