Need a guide for selecting an external hard drive

My Pavillion p6670t needs to be returned for hard drive repairs.  Want to save my documents and personal data.

How do I determine what external hard drive I need?

Re: Need a guide for selecting an external hard drive

You can go with Western Digital (WD) External HDD.

Re: Need a guide for selecting an external hard drive

hi mkaym55,

There are many things to consider when purchasing an external HDD.  In the end, it really will come down to your preference.

As far as types of drives go, there are two main types.  There is your standard external Hard Disk Drive (HDD) which contains rotating discs/platters where the information is written to.  These are the more affordable option and provide a wide variety of storage sizes and can be as large as a notebook or as small as a credit card.  The other option is a Solid State Drive (SSD).  SSDs contain no moving parts (think of it as a large flash drive if you'd like) and therefore have a lot lower failure rate and are more dependable on-the-go (in my opinion).  Solid State Drives are a bit more expensive and typically come in small compact sizes.

I would also recommend the following link if you'd like to read any reviews.  You can narrow down the size, brand, price, etc and read reviews from your search criteria.  I hope this has helped.

Re: Need a guide for selecting an external hard drive

@jmar13 .. He jus wanted to save his docs and files only until his HDD come back frm service center, and you recommend too expensive hard drives? :smileysurprised: I think no need to waste money to buy too xpensive HDD, jus simply buy 500GB WD Xternal HDD , its enouf to keep all doc and files. Yah if you want future proof HDD thn you can go with big size or more expensive Hard drive.
