No USB Ports or Card Reader after HDD Tested

HP Pavillion T380a  {HW BOM: 04.021100, SW BOM: AN30, System #:  DN038A, Serial #: AUW34701Q2}

December 2007 - New Hitachi 160Gb HDD fitted after PC died.  On return, had occassional restart while general use of PC

Up til about September 2008, PC randomly restarted. During this time, a message advised that possible 'RAM' issues.

Then froze while in 'Defrag'.  October 2008, Ordered and fitted 1Gb RAM, removing original 512Mb stick. Managed to

Restore PC and tidy up System and Personal Files {Fransferred back from Portable USB HDD}  At 2 weeks, PC froze on

Restart, so after about 3min, I shut down PC at unit front.  PC would not start into 'Windows', just cycled the first part.

Removed HDD and had Visual Group have it tested. After 3 weeks, no fault found. Refitted HDD into PC and loaded

Restore Discs to set up PC. Problem is now there's no USB Ports or Carder Reader even though Device Manager shows

that theres no problems.  Have tried all the suggestions on HP's NZ web site, and those in this Forum to no avail.

Unfortunitly, I dont have the income {Benefit} to have this PC serviced. Even though I want to learn to fix my own machine.

I need it functioning properly to seek employment.           {And now my Laser Printer's Toner is empty.... I think LOL}

Re: No USB Ports or Card Reader after HDD Tested

Check in the device Manager for Universal Serial Bus Controllers category and make sure there's no yellow triangle icons.

Everything category should have a plus sign if it's normal.

You can try uninstalling all those usb devices in device manager then reboot the pc. Windows should reinstall them back.

Re: No USB Ports or Card Reader after HDD Tested

I have had already tried this. There is no problem according to Device Manager, even after uninstalling and restarting PC. Have even downloaded (on another PC) the original drivers and installed, to no avail.  Could the Motherboard Battery possibly be an issue as it's the original and PC is about 6 or 7 years old.
