Pavilion Elite e9240f Desktop upgrade my current motherboard H-RS880-uATX

I have been slowly upgrading this desktop.

I figured this was the safest way for a novice to replace and not build a new one.

The motherboard doesn't have the intergated graphic card.

Treat2day, welcome to the forum.

Thank you for sharing your upgrade success with the forum.  This not only helps those who want to try their hand at upgrading, but those of us who recommend components when asked for suggestions.  Now, we know what will fit.  What is the brand of the HD 6870?  Some of them are longer than others.

Now, lets hear some bragging! :smileywink:  Were the results what you had expected?

Re: Pavilion Elite e9240f Desktop upgrade my current motherboard H-RS880-uATX

Thank you for the reply

Brand

XFX Radeon HD6870 PCIE 2GB DDR5 Dual Mini DP HDMI DUAL DVI 900M

removed so graphic card would fit

Hauppauge ATSC and NTSC PCI Express x1

I also upgrade the power fan

650w (original 300w)

I am really happy with the stability of the system and my Performance Index improved in all areas except the hard drive score 5.9. This score was the same when I had the Caviar Green and upgraded to Caviar Black.

The 4 monitors work flawlessly, including my Sony Flat screen HDTV. The original HD4650 graphic card didn't allow a proper display with VGA only. The new HD6870 improved by using the mini port that is available on the card.

Video streaming, Media Payer, Web Browsing, FTP can all run without any hiccups. I do web design and task has been much smoother with all the upgrades.

I have seen Windows 7 a bit unstable lately with some programs, especially iTunes and sound card,. The motherboard will hopefully allow me to get maximum quality from these new upgrades.

Hi treat2today,

Did you apply Windows 7 service pack 1?

You can get your disk index up to 7.6 by installing a solid state disk (SSD).

Re: Pavilion Elite e9240f Desktop upgrade my current motherboard H-RS880-uATX

Yes I installed windows 7 professional service pack -

I have went as far as reinstall under "custom" for windows.

No luck so I rolled back drivers on several components. Then found manufacturer names to get a working version of several drivers.

iTunes support forums is flooded with version 5 not working  or with issues for windows 7. Therefore nothing can be done until a fix comes from Microsoft or Apple but no official statement from them acknowledging there is a problem.

Hi,

I am not surprised about the iTunes issues with Windows.  I have a iPod and I am very careful about which software version that I use.

Re: Pavilion Elite e9240f Desktop upgrade my current motherboard H-RS880-uATX

I can't go back to the prior version because my iPod Touch rejects it as not being the version synced to it.

Next time I will wait a few days and test iTunes before plugging in the iPod. My laptop works fine with iTunes, Envy 14, but my iPod needs to be switch over and that becomes another Oprah episode to accomplish.

Hi,

Did you download the 64 bit version of iTunes?

I am using 10.5.2.11 switchless from this site.  It may or may not fit your needs.

Re: Pavilion Elite e9240f Desktop upgrade my current motherboard H-RS880-uATX

Yes, I installed 64 bit under every scenario known to man except your new suggestion.

I have completely uninstalled iTunes and all components attached to it, mobile, ipod, and browser plugins.

I cleaned all the folders and registries, rebooted, installed the switchless version, installed bonjour, another reboot and NOTHING changed. I am 5 minutes into logging into my password manager, finding this link, then logging in and iTunes isn't fired up yet. It may take a few more minutes but each task moves this pace after clicking on the tabs.

I wish iTunes didn't have such a market in which so money elements need it in order for a customer to enjoy other products. This iPod operates all my music on my Home Theatre and my in dash Car Entertainment Center.

iTunes reminds me of AOL installed software service when it was popular and it too was a resource hog.

I totally agree with the AOL hog similarity.
