Pavilion Wireless Connection Problem

Just bought a refurbished Pavilion a6857c.  It refuses to connect to the net through my new Belkin N130router, which is hooked up to my 7 year old Dell desktop.  My HP laptop connects with the router very well from the same location as my Pavilion.  Vista keeps telling me I am connected to the router, but I can not get the internet.  Any ideas?

Re: Pavilion Wireless Connection Problem

Hi john1,

There could be any number of things going on here. Do you have an error or an exclamation point over your wireless icon in the systray (down by the clock on your desktop)?

Does your network have a security password?  Have you put any network settings into the new PC? How about Firewall settings?

Take a look at this HP Support document on troubleshooting Wireless Network issues.

Let us know how it goes.

Re: Pavilion Wireless Connection Problem

Thanks a lot for responding.

I could have missed something in the set up, but everything seems to be pointing to a problem with the PC itself.  All the  Vista diagnostic stuff tells me that I am connected to the router.  I just can't get the internet.  Is there something special in the set up that activates the wireless part of the PC?  As I said, my HP lap top  gets the internet fine from the router from the same location as the PC.

This has been driving me up the wall.  HP customer support (based in India, I guess) has been clueless
