Pavilion slimline s5110uk - running without system fan !?

I'm getting the "System fan failed press F2 to continue" message when starting up.

I read on another post that this fan isn't so important and you can use your machine without it - is that really true?

Processor fan is working find; also have a replacement power supply with fan which is apparently cooler than the original

I am planning to try and get a replacement but wondering how much I can push my luck in the meantime!

If the fan was not needed then why would the manufacturer install one in the first place?

Slimlines PCs have very small cases so the system (cabinet) fan is needed to help with cooling.

You might keep the side off until you replace the fan.

Webbo, welcome to the forum.

Since the Slimline case is so small it does not allow for good airflow.  Therefore, I would not recommend running the computer without the system fan.  Heat can build-up quickly and cause possible component failure.

Thanks for the replies.

I took the case apart to clean up and the system fan is actually running.

Now it won't boot at all - just beeps - one short followed by one long - which is how the problem started originally.

Will now search the forum for that problem  and maybe post a separate question....
