Pavillion a220n turns itself off

When I turn my computer off and then try to turn it back on, it starts up, blue light comes on, and boot procedure begins.

Then, after five  seconds it turns itself back off. Try again and it happens again.  This happens when I use the front switch and also if

I turn it off with the on off switch, or if I unplug it.  After 20 or 30 tries, it finally stays on.

I thought it was a power supply problem so I had a new power supply i nstalled but that did not help.

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appricieated.

Thanks

You shouldn't be using the power button or "pulling the plug" to turn your machine off.

Of course.  I only did that out of desperation trying to get something to work.  Do you have any ideas?

Re: Pavillion a220n turns itself off

Shut down PC.  Disconnect hard drive.  Clear CMOS.  Reboot and attempt to access BIOS.  If PC can display the BIOS screen for 1/2 hour, then you need to zero-fill the hard drive and use the recovery CDs to install windows.

If you cannot access the BIOS, then the power supply may be defective.
