Power questions for e9280t, 6 pin connector.

[ Edited ]

Hello, I recently purchased an e9280t from the HP website (on a seperate subject the eta for shipping is rediculous). I normally build my computers but just did not feel like dealing with it this time around.

I already own a NVidia GTS 250 that requires a 6 pin PCI-E power connector. When I customized the machine on the website the NVidia 260 was an option, knowing that this card requires the same type of power I thought I was safe and opted for the base ATI card. A few days after my order HP removed the 260 from the list. Needless to say I got a little frantic about the power supply supporting this now even though I had enough wattage.

I first emailed HP, after 48 hours with no response I got a flood of responses from differnt support people. One person said that it would support it with an add on adapater, another said to use the 2x Molex to 6 pin adapater (which I had already), and another said it won't support it at all. Frustrated even more I called HP only to be bounced around multiple times. One person again said to use the Molex adapater but when I said I don't believe this machine has the standard Molex plugs usually used on IDE interfaces she changed her mind and said it wouldn't work.

So here is my question and I hope this community will make up for HP's lack of knowledge. Does this machine had the 6 pin connector anywhere? Does it have Molex? If it doesn't have either of these can someone steer me in the direction of a good 460+ watt power supply with the 6 pin so I can have it before my machine arrives?

I greatly appreciate your help on this!

Obtix, I would get the name from the PSU in your computer and check the manufacturer's website to see if it shows PCIE power connectors.  If not, here is a PSU that will handle the card with no problem.  You can hardly buy a 460W PSU for this price.

Re: Power questions for e9280t, 6 pin connector.

The problem is that I don't have the computer yet and need to have the video card working the day I recieve the computer. HP reps gave me a part number for one power supply that must have been for a 10 year old computer and another one that didn't transalte to anything useful.

Since this is a relativly new desktop I am looking for someone who owns the machine to finally (hopefully) confirm the information.

I was looking at that PSU already at NewEgg as well as a few others. The issue then becomes, in the slight chance I ever wanted to use the HP storage drives would they still have power?
