My presario sr1300sx desktop will not start and the power supply light flashes when I connect power. I used the online help to determine that my power supply is good. But when I reconnect the power supply to the motherboard the light flashes again. Does this mean the mother board is bad? If so is it worth replacing?

Hi,
Try this procedure and see if you can isolate the issue. Trouble Shooting Power Supply Issues. Don’t skip any steps.
There might be other components that are causing the issue.

Thanks Big Dave; This is the procedure I use to determine the power supply is still good.

Hi,
Did you unplug all of the internal components per the troubleshooting procedure?
After the components are disconnected:
- If the LED is on solid and is not flashing, the power supply is probably good and the problem is most likely caused by a defective component (processor, memory, PCI card) or a defective motherboard. Have the computer serviced, or remove the components and replace them, one at a time, to find and replace the defective component.
- If the LED is still flashing (it should not flash with all connectors removed), plug the power cable into a different power outlet that is known to be good. If the LED still flashes, the power supply should be replaced.
Your local competent PC repair shop should have a bench power supply and a motherboard tester. You have a fairly old PC so if the motherboard tests indicate a bad motherboard then you should consider a new PC.
