Re: Prevent possible Seagate hard drive crashes!

If you get that "Your system does not meet the operating system requirements" error, there is a fairly simply workaround. Unfortunately, I don't remember the exact steps. HP support told me what to do, but the general idea is to leave the patch hanging with that error message displayed. You can then find the file you need somewhere in your %temp% directory, and burn it to a CD.

Re: Prevent possible Seagate hard drive crashes!

Wayman is definitely the best solution!  I purchased HP Pavilion with Seagate 500GB 7200.11 ST3500620AS HP24 hard drive, the drive “bricked” 4 months after the purchase - the BOIS stopped seeing the hard drive, all the same symptoms as described by other posters.  Best Buy would only replace the drive, but would not retrieve the data, same with HP.  Seagate’s free data recovery only offers free diagnostics with no guarantee that your data will be retrieved or even that the drive will be returned to you intact.  Various “data recovery” rip-off outfits quoted $400-$700 only to recover your data, but not to repair your drive (and they specifically advertize data recovery for Seagate 7200.11).

I read about Wayman on several forums.  I emailed him and he responded within an hour.  I send him my drive with prepaid shipping back and got it back with all data recovered and in perfectly working condition – all for less than $100!  He unbricked it, updated the firmware – and voila, the problem solved!  Wayman is very professional, cordial and responsive.  You can reach him at daskinkaid@gmail.com, or on Twitter: http://twitter.com/daskinkaid, or look him up on Google under Wayman and DASKinkaid.  Thank you, Wayman!  You are a good man and great professional!  Anna

Re: Prevent possible Seagate hard drive crashes!

I have managed to unbrick my harddrive using the hyperterminal and cable described elsewhere. But now I am unable to update the drives' firmware. The utility gives me a 9998 error, my system does not meet the operating requirements. I have burned the .iso to disk, but it will not boot. I suspect my recent upgrade to windows 7 is the hiccup.

Is there a way to replace HP's defective firmware in windows 7? Or has anyone tried Seagate's firmware?

This thing is sure to fail again without an upgrade.

Re: Prevent possible Seagate hard drive crashes!

ok I'm not sure if anyone even checks this thread anymore but I'm having a related issue on my seagate 500 gb Model: ST3500630AS, Serial: 6QG3PFJ1, Firmware: 3.CHN...i recently installed a new 2 TB hd as the primary drive.  I needed more space and was having some minor issues with my window install and i kinda wanted some of the bloatware that came with my original install gone....now because of that I decided to forgo the usual transfer process or ghosting my hd and transfering it over to the new HD....but this meant i had to install all new drivers which has been, not difficult, but lets say interesting....so after i finished installing windows vista i plugged the seagate 500 gb drive back in and have been transfering music and movies and photos over form it...it was also doing the click of death as well so i assumed it was close to dying anyways...but back to the the issue...now my computer wont recognize the seagate drive under drive manager it just says its a generic drive....not what its supposed to say....which is Model: ST3500630AS....so i saw the firmware update but the HD isn't the primary drive so i cant get it to work....also i was hoping to use the recovery partition from the original HD to create a recovery disk...but is that possible when the original HD it was installed under isnt the primary?

I am another satisfied customer of Wayman Ng. Don't waste your time with HP or Seagate. Just contact Wayman at daskinkaid@gmail.com and he will restore your Seagate hard drive quickly, efficiently and inexpensively. I was back in business in just a few days after contacting Wayman.

Re: Prevent possible Seagate hard drive crashes!

I have an a6547c, which I bought refurbished about a yr. ago. It died right before Christmas last yr , shortly after upgrading to Win. 7 from Vista. I have replaced it, but recently started tinkering with it.   It has all the same symptoms as everyone here. It has a blue screen after it tries to load windows. Cannot get recover disks to work. When I run PCDoctor it comes up with the code BIOHD-4 instead of the 2 that everyone on here has. I checked the HP support site for my model, and it has the red flag warning for the Seagate bios update. I am wondering if I replace the hard drive with a different brand, will I be able to use my recovery discs to reinstall original configuration, since my pc will no longer have the original hardware?

Re: Prevent possible Seagate hard drive crashes!

I am getting BIOSHD-3 error. Is that even graver than the 2 error?

That firmware program does not work for me, meaning I cannot even get it on a disk.

Re: Prevent possible Seagate hard drive crashes!

That is what I did and now I sit here on a laptop looking forward? to ordering a new hard drive and hoping my backup will actually work. My segate hard drive crashed yesterday while I was in the middle of two online classes whose assignments can't be completed on this laptop. I'm a graphic artist and need the power of my desktop computer to run my software not to speak about going from two large monitors to a 17" laptop.

I thought the instructions were confusing when I downloaded the patch so I never did it thinking everything had been fine for a year why would it change now.

Boy I wish I had installed that patch then I wouldn't be looking forward to a nightmare of trying to restore all my software and data.
