Have a 3.5" IDE 80 gig Western Digital. Recently purchased a Compaq computer with Vista and SATA drives. Then purchased an Eagle External Drive System specifically for the IDE drive interface. Connected everything and seemed to go as expected. The drivers were automatically loaded. Verified in device manager that the USB information was correct. Then went access the drive in Explorer, no luck. There was no g: as anticipated. Looked at some forum comments that said my machine might not be up to date so went Windows update site and brought in all suggested updates. Still no luck. Even took drive out of external component and reconnected to be sure it was properly seated. Question: Are there some special settings to the machine or Vista required so I can view the external drive?

Check the jumper settings on the IDE drive. Make sure it is set for "Master". It should work if you have it connected properly in the external case after that. Be aware that there are the ribbon cable connections and the power connections for the IDE drive.
