Replacement mother board

Hi

I have a Compaq Presario SR1720NX and the mother board just went out on it. Would anybody know what would be the replacement mother board and where I can get a replacement that would use the same processor and ram? I did the troubleshooting on it and it's the mother board for sure.

Re: Replacement mother board

ASUS OEM A8AE-LE / AmberineM-GL6E
HP Part # 5188-2526 or EK458-69001

No longer available from HP... try googling it.

Re: Replacement mother board

I do not believe you will be able to use your existing HP "loan" of Windows after you replace the MB, so plan on having to buy a new license.  And since you have to do that anyway, maybe you should conseder buying a better MB in the same form factor that supports your existing CPU and RAM?  Just a thought...

Yes, that is exactly what I mean.  Unless the MB is replaced by an HP authorized tech, or at least came out of an exiting HP computer of the same model, I do not believe the license will be valid, meaning that you probably cannot resotore the disc from anything you got from HP.  And even if you try to use your existing HP C: drive, I do not think Windows will start.

HP does everything they can to prevent you from ever using the license you paid for on another computer, and it will see the new MB as another computer.  I had a mother board replaced under warranty in an HP computer once, and the tech had to use a "Tatto" program on it before the computer would accept it.  I have seen other posts on this forum where the user was sad to find their Windoze no longer worked after replacing the MB.

I may not have all the facts, but you are forewarned before you spend the money.

I have windows 7 on it. It came with windows XP so I'll have no issue there.
