Running out of recovery space

sr5702f  Presario  desk top Vista home basic sp2 it was used when i got and not sure what is stored o n recover disk I just did and back up set of disk on it  and plan to make set of recover disk.The disk is almost full and getting  warning  before I go in to the system files can I view the 14 disk that just back up to see what is stored there and get a idea what is there frist and if there is stuff not needed and I ever need to use the back up would it still work and can I remove unneed stuff off  of the back up disk frists.

I have read that but still like to know if I can open and view the files on my back up disk ( drive d ) Will it auto run or ask you like all other cd So if I view will it stil work if need to do a back
