SCSI vs SATA

For video editing, I've just read a recommendation to use separate drives for application and video files.  Further, recommendation to use Raid or SCSI for HD video.  Will they siginificantly outperform an $85 7200 WD Caviar Black SATA drive I ordered recently?  Should I send it back when it comes?   Can I easily install a Raid or SCSI drive in my Pavilian m9040n running Win 7 64bit; 500w power?

Re: SCSI vs SATA

Assuming there is a place to install this new hard drive and also leave the existing hard drive installed, then all should be well.  I would not attempt a Raid or SCSI install.  Just use the new drive for the video files.  With the new hard drive technology, any performance difference will not be very much.

I would agre with TheOldMan. I have used Raid0 striped arrays for years now, and as TheOldMan suggest, the performance of these Raid0 arrays over a Brand Name hard drive with a large cache, will not produce that much improvement in performance.

I had a Raid0 array with two Western Digital 10,000 rpm drives and also a Raid0 array with two Seagate 7,200 rpm drives and ran some bench marks on both of these arrays and found no noticeable difference. I also compared the Raid0 arrays with a single Seagate 7,200 rpm drive and there were some bench marks that were actually better than the Raid0 array.

SCSI drives are a little different however. But the cost of these drives for the average user is prohibitive.
