SMART Short Self Test failed during system test on Pavilion d5200t

I ran a system test on my d5200t, and the SMART Short Self Test failed, with a code of HD521-2W (if that means anything).  What, if anything, can be done?

Re: SMART Short Self Test failed during system test on Pavilion d5200t

Hi,

This error is telling you that your Hard Drive is, or soon will, be failing.  Back up your Files Programs etc as soon as poosible.  You will then just need to buy a new Hard Drive and reinstall your Operating System on it from your Recovery or retail DVDs.

Hope this helps.

Best wishes,

Re: SMART Short Self Test failed during system test on Pavilion d5200t

Hi,

Failing the SMART Short Self Test is a good indication that the Hard Drive is becoming faulty - the only solution to this is to replace the Hard Drive.

Re: SMART Short Self Test failed during system test on Pavilion d5200t

Hi Carlandjoyce,

The Hard Disk Self Test is built into the BIOS of HP notebook computers. This tests the condition and integrity of the hard drive. You should run the Hard Drive self test in the BIOS, if you see any error message about possible problems with the hard drive

So if the test fails, you can try performing recovery. If that doesn't work the only option left, is to replace hard drive.

Saurabh
