OK. I installed a Kingston HyperX SSD in my H8-1214. It shows up in BIOS. It shows up in the RAID list. It shows up in device manager. It does not show up as a drive. Reading through their tech support about this problem says to try other sata ports. All work the same, and change the device ID, but the drive does not show in Windows Explorer. Their next suggestion is to turn OFF AHCI. I thought SSDs needed this...Problem is, setting the BIOS to IDE mode disables the RAID and therefore my ability to load windows...Any thoughts?

When you use SSD you should set into ACHI which is much fast in aceesing speed. Can you get a screenshot for more information?

Depends - do you have a system with RAID enabled?
then you need SATA setting on RAID - it turns control over to the RAID controller to boot.
Next did you initialize it in Disk Management? If it is a brand new drive you'll need to do that.
good luck.

I have an HP system which has Raid enabled (it shows that way during POST. I am not very sophisticated with this, but my system hung up exactly as was described here. How do I get it to work? I've tried changing the BIOS to switch off RAID which of course would not boot. It would not work with ACHI or IDE selected.
Thanks

I assume that you are installing an SSD. Be careful on HPs as they will not allow you (easily) to install an SSD as the boot device. The problem with my install was not with the HP but with the documentation with the SSD. Contact your SSD manufacturer and they will be able to walk you through making your SSD a data drive.
I use mine to make certain games, that are hard drive intensive, work better (read that Sims3). I used the custom install option and installed all the packages on the SSD and moved my MyDocuments to the SSD so that games will save there. Game runs FABULOUSLY! Now I'm looking for an FPS limiter to keep it from trying to run 300+ FPS on my graphics card!

Hey guys,
an SSD is really no different than a regular hard drive when you add it to any system, the exception with HP systems is the size. If you are trying to add a SSD to a HP PC, and the drive is 160GB or smaller, and the PC didn't ship with a 160GB or smaller SSD to begin with, you will not be able to recover the PC to that SSD. That means you can use the recovery media that you created or that you purchased to recover to that drive. The process of recovery partitions the drive up to establish the recovery partition etc. and uses more than 160GB to do it, so you won't be able to recover to it.
If you use a larger drive, there are no differences between an SSD and a mechanical hard drive and it will work without any changes when running the recovery.
good luck
