Slimline s3040.uk processor upgrade

Hi, I want to upgrade the current Athlon 64 X2 3800+ processor to a Phenom X4 955 black edition and was wondering if the exisiting heatsink and fan would need replacing. Any help on this much appreciated

The new processor will include a fan and heatsink. The only ones that don't are tray processors.

What is the exact part nuumber of the processor you want to install?

Best regards,
erico

Hi Erico

The 3040 has a screw fit assembly that screws into four holes in the motherboard and the included heatsink/fan is the clip on type hence the problem. The part number for the new processor / fan aseembly is HDZ955fbgm box.

Many thanks

HI,

The image shows a standard Micro-ATX configuration motherboard.  The image is of the motherboard in your PC.The fan & heatsink  that comes with the processor is a no-go. Buy an upgraded fan/ heatsink to replace it with. The new processor  is designed  to emit up to 125 Watts  and the Athlon 64 X2 3800 was an 89 Watt unit.

I would not try using the original cpu fan.heatsink on the new quad processor.

Best regards,
erico
