Tattooing a HP Pavilion motherboard replacement

:smileyhappy:

Good morning all!

My other post on seemed to get me no answers  so here I go again.

The Asus board I WAS going to get went to flop.

Instead I found an exact match FOXCONN NAPA GL8E MATX geForce 7100/nFORCE 630I to replace my original board.

Now all I have to do is find out how to perform the tattooing prodedure.

Going to purchase a 5 cd Vista Home Premium 64 bit recoveryset today along withthe board.

Tried searching YouTube for answers for the procedure but not a whole lot of luck.

Just a bunch of goofe balls with very blurry pictures you couln't make out.

So I thought t might help more if it's acceptible & allowed to get info on that procedure.here.

Any support would be greatfully appreciated.

David

Re: Tattooing a HP Pavilion motherboard replacement

Hey there! Unfortunately, the system tattoo utility is only available to HP and HP Authorize Service Providers. If you can give me your ZIP code I should be able to find an ASP in your area.

Could't you have found one a little closer preferbly like FT.Smith Ark.?

Ft.Smith is only 25 min's away & Tulsa is an hour away.

Does Best Buy or one of those other computer stores do the procedure or does it have to be an HP affiliate?

I do appreciate your help though.

I thought I could go ahead & perform it if I just read up on it some more.

I read where Microsoft gets in on it too.

It doesn't really make any differance if I lose the Windows files from the hdd or not but I wanted to try out Vista for the first time.

I'm just tinkering around with this HP computer.

I have 3 other computers in my house that are up & running fine so i'm not without a computer.

Just wanted one that was alot faster than my other ones.

I have 2 Windows xp pro cd's.

Could I just install xp on the 500gb & then turn around & upgrade the xp to Vista that way?

Seems to be alot cheaper than installing Vista all over again unless i can use the restore cd's.

Thank you very much & if you could just find one a little bit closer I would apprecite it greatfully.

David.

Hope you had a good Labor Day weekend.....

I did!

Stayed on my computer all weekend looking for that motherboard again for the 3rd time & the cd's as well.

HP support keeps sending me a follow up message telling me to get back with them so we can resolve my issues.

I've been bugging them to death.

Thanks!:smileywink:

Re: Tattooing a HP Pavilion motherboard replacement

Those were the closest based on zip code. Your local Best Buy may also be able to perform this. If you want to drive to my store in Knoxville, TN I can do it for you. :smileywink: It was a pretty good weekend, was off the whole time and we had the largest Labor Day fireworks display in the southeast Sunday night. :smileyvery-happy:

Re: Tattooing a HP Pavilion motherboard replacement

Adamtech:

So your saying I cannot perform this prodedure unless I was an HP Employee?

I was trying to register with www.hptechzone.com & it asked in the registration area what company do you work for & had a drop down list.

That told me I was not allowed to access this site & register since i'm not an employee of any of them in the list.

I thought I could login with my HP ID & password but did not work.

I guess i'm stuck having to take my machine to a local computer outlet after I install the new motherboard & have them perform the utilities.

I'll contact one of the stores in Ft. Smith & see if they can get me in soon as I receive my board.

Retiring real soon & I do computer repairs in my spare time in my home & have to have access to this site so I can perform certain utilities to repair customes pc's.

This is something all new to me.

I appreciate you helping me out.
