Tough Question - ASUS P5LP-LE motherboard processor upgrade

I have an HP desktop with the ASUS P5LP-LE motherboard. I would like to put a Core 2 Duo Processor E7500 series into this computer, however HP specs say max supported is a 6xxx series. Will the E7500 work with this motherboard? E6xxx processors are getting hard to find. Thank you!

Some more info, they are both socket 775, 1066mhz FSB, 6000 series is a Conroe core and the 7000 series is a Wolfdale core.

Re: Tough Question - ASUS P5LP-LE motherboard processor upgrade

According to the motherboard's specs, it can support Intel Core 2 Duo processors with 775 sockets.  I see no reason why it can't, although I cannot guarantee that it will.

Re: Tough Question - ASUS P5LP-LE motherboard processor upgrade

Also, based on research I can't tell if I have a P5LP-LE (Leonite) or a P5LP-LE (Emery). This apparently makes a BIG difference in processor support.

Re: Tough Question - ASUS P5LP-LE motherboard processor upgrade

Hi, according to your m7480n product page, you actually do have the Emery motherboard.  :smileysad:

Just to be sure, you can have a quick look-see at the back of the machine.  The Emery has a big pink parallel port coming off the back, whereas the Leonite has a blue VGA port instead.

There is a BIOS update available for the m7480n, if you're still running xp, but it doesn't say anything about having updated the micro code for newer processors.  Looks like your processor options for the Emery are:

  • Pentium D 800 series Smithfield core up to 3.2 GHz
  • Pentium 4 Prescott core up to 580 and 670

Good luck
