Hi,
I have a Pavillion m9170 with USB internal/external Media Drive and until recently everything worked fine and the Media Drive was available as a recognised drive (M:\).
For some reason now the drive does not appear. I have tried removing it and inserting again whereby it appears for approximately 1-2mins in Explorer then dissappears with an error message advising:
"USB Device Not Recognised: One of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned, and Windows does not recognised it."
Device Manager simply shows it as an Unknown USB Device.
Has anyone else experienced this and know a resolution?
Many thanks

Try another USB port. Do you have this problem with a USB thumb drive? Sometimes, the PC's USB port cannot deliver sufficient current to drive an external USB device. You may need to add a powered USB hub.
The USB controller on the external drive could be defective. Retest with another PC.
