USB Port short circuit and the motherboard is dead??

I broke the USB socket on front of my PC. I restarted my PC, now it it stuck on HP blue screen. I went to Geek squad at BestBuy and they told me beacause I broke the little piece in front of my computer shorted the motherboard. Should I just buy another computer, or should I try to get this one fixed. I now motherboards cost a lot these days.

If you have any technical ability I would suggest you try disconnecting the USB ports on the front. It's just a plug on the motherboard. Tracing back the wiring will require some disassembly. If it works, then you could replace the USB module on the front for about $25-40. The module has a part number that can be "googled".
