Model: Pavilion a1630n desktop
Windows XP Media Center Edition
Service Pack 3
Hi:
The USBs are not working properly. They seem to stop working shortly after start-up. To make them work momentarily I have to disconnect the device and connect it again. For example, to make the mouse and keyboard work, I have to disconnect the device from the USB, wait for the computer to make the noise it makes when you disconnect a device, then connect it again. If I stop moving the mouse, then I'm done; I have to disconnect and connect it again. It does not recognize the printer after a few minutes or the external drive. NOTHING! It's very frustrating. It's also 5 years old.
I used the PC recovery option to see if any new installs where causing the problem, but that did not help. I am at a loss now. Don't know if I should throw it away, take to the shop. So I decided to come here as a first step.
Thanks

Hi:
See if installing the chipset driver works for you.

Well, since you did a factory reset, and even installing the chipset driver doesn't help, I would have to conclude there is some kind of hardware malfunction but I would have no idea how or where to look.
