800 G1
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

We evidently have something in our environment that is preventing the BIOS being flashed on ANY HP device.

The failure log for an 800 G1 reads:

What can be causing this? There are a lot of people posting about these 0x103 errors and no solution being provided.

download the spxxxxx.exe file and save it on your unit and then run and extract it. Do not continue with the installation that shows up on the IE or mozilla or chrome browser., instead close the web browser and then navigate to ==> c:\swSetup\spXXXX\HPQflash\HPQflash.exe.

Run the HPQflash.exe and continue with the installation.

Thanks Dan, but i would only ever run HPQflash - Running a BIOS upgrade via IE is insanity.

I did see reference to IE not being default being a cause of some users problems, but that is not related to this problem.

Whether I run HPQflash from explorer, or open a CMD window with admin rights (it says Administrator in the title bar to confirm i have the required rights), the same error occurs.

I did guess you would have definitely ran the HPQflash.exe directly from the explorer., somehow i thought i would still mention this to ensure we leave no stone unturned. 🙂

Well..., i am sure you would have tried this or atleast it would have crossed your mind, but just in case., check if the "HP Service" and "HP Software Framework Service" are started and running and then try running the HPQflash.exe from the explorer.

If you dont see "HP Software Framework Service" listed under services, then you could download and install the driver to start the service.

The name of the softpack is "sp60076.exe" and the link is as mentioned below:

Good Luck!

Thanks for your help Dan, it's very much appreciated.

The HP Software Framework Service was not installed, i have installed it (no reboot, but the service has started) and tried the BIOS flash again with the same result.

How come the HPSF service is not in the list of drivers/downloads for the 800 G1 (or any other model i presume, as I dont recall seeing it)? Also, the date is very old, is there not a newer version? What about for devices that were released after December 2012?

Are you saying that HPSF service is required to flash the BIOS?

When convenient, i will reboot and try flashing again.

This has failed again, with the samer error code in the log of 0x103 but the error code on screen as 0xF0 (FLASH_FAILED).

So this has nothing to do with the Software Framework it seems.

What else could it be?
