I have an HP E9220y and have tried 3 different sets of ram and still have problems.
It will say that it has 16GB installed but only 7.25 is avaliable.
When I put the original in it uses all 4 sticks and when I change it, I go back to 7.25.
I have been very careful and read closely and have been using the Non-ECC memory, unbuffered, DDR3, PC3-10600, and Dual chanel.
Has anyone else had this happen, I have never seen this before. Any ideas or help?
I first bought a generic ram, and when that did not work I bought gskil. It did the same thing, the tech told me it was because I bought 2 8GB kits, and told me to buy a 16 GB kit that was "Matched." But then it said Quad Channel Kit. He said that was because it was a matched set. So I figured he knows more than me. After I got it and put it in the same thing happened. 16GB RAM installed 7.24 useable, abd when I put the original 8 back in the 4 slots no problem.
So I am way confused, I have changed the power supply, processor, video card, and put in a send optical drive; all with no problems. So HELP what am I missing?

Hi,
What program are you using that indicates only 7.25 MB usable?
What operating system are you using? Are you using Virtual PX and XP mode?
Start up Task Manager and look at the performance tab then resource monitor. What does it indicate?

Both Windows 7 Ultimate and CPUID, and its shows all 4 slots filled, oh and it shows the same in BIOS.
