Upgrading HP 6510b CPU from T7100(1.8ghz) to T8300(2.4ghz) or T9300(2.5ghz)

I need to upgrade the processor on my 6510b and want to know if it is a relatively simple exercise, swap CPUs, or whether more is involved and needs an "expert" installation. Will the new CPU be automatically sensed. The latest bios is installed (F15)

Any advise would be of huge assistance.

Th 6510b is a notebook. That means that you posted this in the wrong secition.

t is not the same as upgrading CPUs in a desktop  because of the difficuly involved in opening a laptop without damaging it.

That would put it in the "expert" skills required category. Unless you are comfprtable with doing this, I would recommend that you purchase the CPU and have a laptop shop swap it for you.

The Intel Core 2 Duo processor T8300 - 2.40GHz (Penryn-3M, 800MHz front side bus, 3MB Level-2 cache) and Intel Core 2 Duo processor T9300 - 2.50GHz (Penryn, 800MHz front side bus, 6MB Level-2 cache) will work. They are listed as CPU options in PartSurfer.

Your OS will recognize the CPU without skipping a beat. :smileyhappy:

Erico

Sorry for posting in the wrong forum, I only noticed that myself after I read my own question. Very grateful for the response. I asked the same question from HP and got the answer "We dont support upgrading the CPU" as a reply, at that was all. Nothing about "yes it can be done but not recommended".

I will now take your advice and get an "expert" to fit it.

Thanks again for a prompt reply

Great. And so your question is solved?

As the author of the thread you can mark this as  solved in the options link in the upper righ-hand corner of the answer that solved your question/issue.
