Upgrading Pavilion for gaming p7-1010 do I need a new fan?

Hi, a week or so ago I asked alot about my computer and its upgrades on the forum . Now im wondering if I need a new fan for my computer.  Im converting the HP Pavilion p7-1010 into a gaming computer.  

When I consulted the forum before I asked and confirmed that the Sapphire Raedeon 6870 and Corsair 600W Builder Series Power Source fit my computer and would be excellent upgrades for my computer (If this statement is not accurate please let me know).

Currently, besides these to upgrades I am going to but soon, my computer has a completely default make up and would appear exactly as from the Hp listing.  I am now wondering if i need a fan with these upgrades to cool down the system, and if so do you have any recommendations?  I looked it up online and got conflicting results, thank you!

Hi,

The Corsair power supply will have a larger fan which is going to help. Just be sure that your PC is not kept in an enclosed air space such as a cabinet or desk.

If your PC should gets too hot inside then there isn't a lot that can be done.  You can download PC Wizard monitor the video card, processor and hard drive temperatures.

1. The back I/O plates can be replaced with louvered  or slotted plates. 

2. A PCI slot cooler fan might work.

3. A better CPU heat sink if the processor is getting too hot.  This might require removing the motherboard to attach the back mounting plate (not the easiest thing to do).

4. Change cabinets (not the easiest thing to do).

I have a desk that has large open shelves attached to the side sort of like really tall open steps (3 levels) They are big enough so that my computer does not touch any surface besides the one beneath it and I could fit about 2 of the same model in the space. There is no back to it either its like having another slightly lower table top right next to me, you said not to put the computer on or in a desk, is the an exception?

Hi,

Having two PCs in a close proximity may not be a good idea as too much hot might exist causing the ambient air temperature to rise to a point where the PCs can't stay cool.  You will have to monitor the temperatures and if your PCs stop performing well or shut done then move one PC out of the area and then monitor again.  High PC temperatures can cause premature electronics failure.

No, i meant like I could if i wanted to, I was just asking if the shelf thing i'm using is good enough, because you stated not to put computers on desks

Hi,

The above post of mine indicates "in" a desk not on a desk.  I have seen where a PC was placed inside a desk that is made for a mini-tower or slimline only to find out that the PC over heats.  Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't.  It depends on the desk ventilation, ambient air temperature and how much heat is being generated by the PC if inside a desk will work.
