I'm looking into adding 8 gb of Ram to my computer, i.e. increase it from 8gb to 16gb.

My friend said I want DDR4 1600MHz, however, from what I can tell my motherboard only supports DDR3 (1333)

How do I find out what my RAM speed and manufacturer currently are? I've heard it is important to only buy same brand and speed rather than mix-and-matching. Is this true?

CPU-Z says speed sits around DRAM Frequencies of 798 MHz... Sometimes the NB Freq will jump up to 3000+ MHz for a split second, then drop down to 900 or 796

Should I buy any 1333 4x 2stick DDR3 RAM or should I definitely find out what I have now so that I match it with at least the same manufacturer?

Hi,

DDR4 will not work in your PC.  It's best to inform your friend of that errant thinking.

The motherboard in your PC only has two (2) dimm slots so you will need to acquire a matched pair of 8 GB dimms.  Review this memory upgrade information.

Your first consideration should be HP Sales or HP Support when considering memory replacement or upgrades. If you want to consider other manufacturers then the easiest way to avoid memory problems is to contact one of the major memory manufacturers. I am recommending that you try the memory tools from these manufacturers: Corsair, Kingston and Crucial. Once you have determined the dimms that you need, then contact sales or technical support to verify that you have selected the correct dimms. If you buy directly from the manufacturers, then they will stand behind their products.
