Hello, Okay so the subject says it all i want to toally upgrade my computer i was thinking about upgrading my processor, motherboard and RAM also the Graphics card and possibly the casing too.

 

Here is what i plan on getting.

 

AMD FX-8150 FX 8-core black edition

 

ASUS Crosshair V Formula AM3+ AMD 990FX SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Republic of Gamers Series Motherboard. Corsair Vengeance 8 GB ( 2 x 4 GB ) DDR3 1600 MHz (PC3 12800) 240-Pin DDR3 Memory Kit. 16 gb i plan on getting all together. I just dont know what kind of power supply is recomended for all of it and if i do get like a 800w or higher or 600w. Would it matter? Would it damage my pc and or cause problems if i do. I thank you for any info you can provide.

VoidXero, welcome to the forum.

 

When requesting help, you should always include the make/model of the computer and/or monitor. This information is necessary for us to review the specifications of them.  We have to see the specs for the computer to know which components are supported by the motherboard.

 

Since the PSU is the backbone of the computer, it is not the place to save money.  I like Corsair and OCZ.  I normally recommend at least 500W to 600W.  This will give you more choices for video cards.  The wattage is no problem, since the computer only uses the amount required to run it properly.  The additional wattage is there for peak time.

Hi,

 

We are missing one critical piece of information. What video card(s) do you plan on using?

 

Not all power supplies are created equal.  The specifications on the cheaper brands can be all over the place. Stick will a well known PSU manufacturer.  Leading magazines such as Maximum PC and Computer Power User  (March 2012 edition) do evaluate power supplies.  I prefer a single +12 rail model PSU as balancing the load on the +12 volt bus does not become an issue.

 

BTW, what cabinet do you plan on using with the ASUS motherboard? 

 

Totally upgrade or do you really mean to build a PC from scratch?
