Upgrading graphics card

[ Edited ]

Hi,

I'm going to be buying a new graphics card soon, but I don't know if I should buy it. I'm thinking about the AMD Radeon HD 6870, but I can't decide which one would be best for my computer (http://www.amazon.com/GIGABYTE-Radeon-DisplayPort-PCI-Express-GV-R687OC-1GD/dp/B004IF6I1S/ref=sr_1_6... or http://www.amazon.com/SAPPHIRE-Radeon-6870-GDDR5-Graphics/dp/B005C8RTTU/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=13252...). I'm a gamer so I don't know a lot about upgrading cards and such, so spare me with the technical terms.

My current graphics card measures 4 3/4 inches in depth and 6 1/2 inches in length, and I have more space so I'm pretty sure both of these can fit. My computer is the HPE-480t, and my OS is Windows 7 Professional. If you need any more information, I can try to get it.

Thank you!

Re: Upgrading graphics card

Either card should fit. Your power supply may be an issue.

Koiejcsvn, welcome to the forum.

The links that you provided didn't list the measurements of the cards.  So, I looked them up on Newegg.  Both cards appear to be over 11" in length.  Therefore, I don't believe that they will fit into your case.  These cards require a full case.

I suggest buying a card that is less than 9".  Newegg has better specs listed on their cards.  Also, there are very good reviews of all of the cards.  Some members have been able to use cards that measure 9.25" without problems.

I like XFX cards (HD-687X-CNFC).  The card with the model that I listed is 8.66" in length.  It would be a good card for gaming.  You can see it on Energy.

Another thing to consider is the wattage of your power supply unit (PSU).  It may not be powerful enough.

If you have more questions, let me know.

Re: Upgrading graphics card

Thank you so much!

I will most likely get the XFX when I can, so thanks for your help.
