Upgrading hp m9400f video card

So i bought a nvidia geforce gtx550 ti graphics card and i was able to power up the computer and watch it boot until it gets to the progress bar before the log-in screen for windows vista. At that point its just a black screen and nothing else happens. Does anyone know if this graphics card is compatible to this computer( hp m9400f) or can you recommend any good graphics cards compatible for this computer.

appreciate the help!:catvery-happy:

Hi,

The typical GTX 550 TI requires a 400+ watt power supply with a 6 pin PCI-E power connector.

You have two choices:

1. Install a bigger PSU such as the Corsair CX500.

2. Get a video card to work with a 350 watt power supply.

My recommendation is to buy the bigger power supply.

These HP 'how-to" articles should be helpful.

So followed the directions and nothing changed. I tried changing the option in BIOS and got the same results. I'd really like to just upgrade the computer without having to buy another computer!!!

hbcorpsman,

Your stock power supply (PSU) does not have the wattage, nor the PCIE (6pin) power lead required for that card.

If the card came with an adapter (twin molex to PCIE) it still needs more wattage.
