I'm looking to upgrade some of the parts on my stock HP desktop. I originally just wanted a nice desktop but I've been getting into gaming more and want to upgrade some of the parts myself. I don't know much about upgrading computers so I'm asking for some help from some experts who do know. I'd like some recommendations on parts for a good price. I don't need it to be top of the line, just enough to play modern games well (med-high settings) Here is what I can find about my desktop.
System Model: NY553AA-ABA e9220y
Processor: AMD Phenom II X4 910 Processor (4 CPUs), ~2.6GHz
Memory: 8192MB RAM
Graphics Card name: ATI Radeon HD 4350

WD, welcome to the forum.
I have reviewed the specs of your computer and believe that the only upgrade necessary to increase system performance is a better discrete video card. This would, however, require a power supply unit (PSU) upgrade.
I like Corsair and OCZ PSU's. Here are two that would work:

I like XFX, EVGA, Sapphire and PNY video cards in that order. Here is one that should fit into the space provided and give you good performance:
