Want to upgrade my p6540f CPU from Quad Core to 6 Core...

I currently own a p6540f Desktop PC with a AMD Phenonm II Quad core processor.

I would like to update it to a AMD FX-6300 6 core.  Please let me know how I can update the Bios on my Foxconn motherboard to accept this chip.

Thank you...

WhoisRip, welcome to the forum.

Here are the Processors that are supported by the motherboard:

Motherboard supports the following processor upgrades:
  • TDP=125W
  • AMD Phenom II X4 9xx/9xxe/8xx Quad-Core (D)
  • AMD Phenom II X3 7xx/7xxe Triple-Core (H)
  • AMD II Athlon X4 6xx/6xxe (P)
  • AMD II Athlon X3 4xx/4xxe ®)
  • AMD II Athlon X2 2xx/2xxe ®)

As you can see, there are not any 6-cores listed.

There is a BIOS update available, but it has nothing to do with upgrading the Processor.

Please click "KUDOS Thumbs Up" if I have helped you and click "Accept as Solution" if your problem is solved.

Thanks for the reply, unfortunately that is unacceptable to me.

I don't care to hear "safe/corporate" answers.

I know there's a way to make it work, so please share the wealth and fill me in on what I have to do to get it to work...

Thank you

My warranty has been up for 2.5 years, I don't care about VOID'ing anything...I just want this chip to work with my mobo

If I were to purchase a new mobo to accommodate the new processor, would my current version of Windows and HD still work?

This is a peer to peer volunteer forum.  Most of us, including me, don't work for HP.  Therefore, I don't have what you consider to be the inside scoop and I can't give out information that is not in the specs of the computer.

No!  HP motherboards are tatooed with the major components of the computer.  The Recovery Discs look for this information before beginning the install.  If it is not found, the Recovery will not work.  You would have to buy a full copy of Windows.

Hi,

This list of AMD processors for a 125 watt AM3 socket motherboard should work.  Don't buy a black edition as they have been known not to work in HP PCs.

Know what the return policy is before you buy anything.

Re: Want to upgrade my p6540f CPU from Quad Core to 6 Core...

Just out of idle curiosity . . . If WhoisRip were to replace his H-RS880-uATX (Aloe) motherboard with a N-Alvorix-RS880-uATX (Alvorix) that supports a few 6 core AMD processors (e.g., Phenom II X6 1065T), would the HP recovery discs install properly. In my opinion, it wouldn't be worth the expense of a new motherboard and processor, but would it work?

Hi huskerteck,

Why even ask the question if it's not worth the expense? HP recovery disks are known not to work on other motherboards. If you had the correct DMI information and tool then that's another matter.
