Where to connect second CD ROM Drive to HP Pavillion HPE 64-bit SATI

I wanted to add a 2nd CD Rom drive from an old computer to my new HP Pavilion HPE. It had no data cable installed.  I got a cable and adapters and plugged in to what I thought was the proper SATI plug on the motherboard, but the drive is not recognized so I assume I'm plugging in to the wrong place.

Does anyone know where a second drive cable is supposed to go?  A photo of the spot on the motherboard would be ideal.

Thanks in advance

oldman2012,

It's not that hard. The existing motherboard Sata ports are usually numbered 0,1,2,3 on a 4 port board.

0 is the hard drive, and 1 is the DVD/CD drive. You can connect the data cable from the 2nd DVD/CD drive to port 2 or 3.

The other end attaches to the DVD/CD drive. You still need to attach a power lead to the back of the 2nd DVD/CD drive.

That's what I thought, but tried plugging into SATA3 (Blue) and SATA4 (Orange) on the board and no recognition at either. If I am connected correctly (?) then I must assume I have a faulty adapter on data line.

Would you explain what you mean by faulty adapter?

If the drive your trying to add is Sata, then please read this carefully.

1) Turn off computer.

2) disconnect leads from your working DVD unit.

3) Connect the other drive to these leads.

4) Turn on computer.

Does the drive work now?

Really, a Sata DVD/CD reader is less than $25.

Re: Where to connect second CD ROM Drive to HP Pavillion HPE 64-bit SATI

The unit is a LightScribe and didn't think it necessary to toss a perfectly good drive, but considering the issues I'm now facing I might safe my sanity by just buying a SATA drive.
