Will This Power Supply Work?

Hello, I am new here so bear with me. I have a HPE-560Z (HP Pavillion Elite HPE Series Desktop) with Windows 7 Professional 64 bit, 8 GB RAM, AMD Phenom II X6 1090T Processor (3.20 GHz). My video card is what I would like to replace. I have in my computer an AMD Radeon HD 6450, and it isn't enough for modern games. So, I purchased an AMD Radeon HD 6970. The problem is, my power supply isn't strong enough, it's only 300 watt output. I would like to know if this power supply can be installed and work properly with the new video card: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1336023&CatId=2534 and if not, can someone show me a power supply that will work? Thank you!

Re: Will This Power Supply Work?

850 watt is way overkill and low price from a noname brand is probably going to spell trouble.  550w is enough and you will need a PS with 6 and 8 (6+2) pin pci-e connectors for the card depending on the brand.

Here's a great deal for 20% off through tomorrow.

You sure? Because if 300 watts is what I use now for my RAM, prcessor and stuff, when I look at the box the video card alone needs 400 watts I believe.

Re: Will This Power Supply Work?

300 watts isn't what you use right now... there is room to add several more components and allow for short peak operation. The 400 watts your new video card is recommending is the minimum system power supply rating. A 500 watt power supply covers this requirement and leaves plenty of headroom for additional components and peak operation of the system. The Corsair CX500 and CX600 are highly recommended and a forum favorite... and because they are only around a half an inch longer than the stock HP PSU, they generally fit without causing issues.
