a6110n - hard drive

[ Edited ]

HI

help please

I replaced my hard drive in a Pavillion A6110n with a new hard drive, because i some how messed up the BIOS in the old hard drive.  And now i keep on getting a message telling me to load the system disk, but when i insert the system disk it's not being recognized.  I'm using window vista.  Could the problem be that maybe I need to  reload Window Vista or Reformat the hard drive, if so can someone please tell me how, when i can't get pass the insert system disk.

Re: a6110n - hard drive

I doubt you messed up the BIOS in your old hard drive as the BIOS resides on the motherboard and not the hard drive. Your original factory shipped OS was Windows Vista 32bit. Did you make a set of HP Recovery Discs??? Since you installed a new hard drive, you will definitely need to install an OS. This can be done using the HP Recovery Discs you should have already made. These discs should boot but it also depends on the BIOS settings entered in your computer. Please provide more details for further assistance.

You could try this with the original drive:http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c00814731&tmp_task=solveCategory&cc=us&dlc=en&lc...

If this fails, then proceed with the new drive as follows.

Here are the steps:http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c00814731&tmp_task=solveCategory&cc=us&dlc=en&lc...

It comes with a nice video, and the text for this is laid out in the second to last item, named Starting the Recovery from recovery discs.

This also explains the process:http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01684708&tmp_task=solveCategory&cc=us&dlc=en&lc...

Ladybug,

This means the BIOS is corrupt and the computer is searching for a device it can load a new copy of the BIOS from. To fix this requires downloading and extracting the BIOS from the HP "sp" BIOS download for your computer. The BIOS must then be renamed and put on a CD (possible with other files). I don't have all the information in front of me right now but will try to post it later. You can search the for information on google by typing "award boot block BIOS".
